My New Outside Blog: September 2011

Do you know what you don't want to do? I sure do....

Anna makes a great point here. Do what you are good at, and do what makes you happy and fulfilled. And don't do things that you know will drive you nuts, or just make you uncomfortable.

I only work with buyers. After 15 years I don't mind saying I'm good at it. And one reason is that all my attention goes to one thing. No listings, no rentals, and NO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT!!

Do you know what you don't want to do? I sure do.....

I have said for years that I never wanted to do property management. And I stand clearly on that statement 24 years later.  The first office I worked in way back when had a fantastic property manager. But...good grief she put up with so many interesting ok kind of strange folks. Plus there were a ton of details that would drive even an engineer crazy!

I do enjoy leasing properties for my investor clients.  I have a pretty good feeling for picking good tenants and who would most likely take good care of the properties.  I leave the the final 'chosing' of the tenants up to the landlord - that is their choice.

Today I met the new renters at one of our Moon Valley Homes to hand over the keys. They seemed like very nice people. Really they did. But - she started asking for this and for that and it was a little crazy at first.  I let her know I'm not the property manager but I'd be happy to have the owners call her.  Why she didn't mention these issues before she rented this high dollar home is beyond me. And why didn't her agent address these issues before they wrote the contract?  Interesting! There are always solutions and I'm glad it's not up to me!

Seriously this home is so spotless you could eat off the floors inside and out.  It sparkles - Thanks to my fabulous team of house cleaners and carpet cleaners! And the landlords are the absolute nicest people on the planet and are very proud of their rental homes.  They go above and beyond to make sure their tenants are happy. I'm sure this lady will be happy with their arrangement. And I know they'll love this gorgeous home!

Folks - I'm not nor do I ever want to be a property manager!

I sell Phoenix homes! And I'm very good at selling Phoenix homes!

Don states the obvious here with his post about "The Experienced Agent". I like the analogies with the insurance person referral, the attorney reference or the physician search. And then we come to the buyers and sellers who think… more
